Tips on How to Perform a Submersible Well Pump Installation
Once you have removed your old pump and determined if it needs replacing, you will be able to see what the type and model you will need to perform a well-pump installation. Wire your old pump directly to power source once you have removed it to make sure it does, in fact, need replacing and the problem is not in the wire which runs down into the well.
When you determine the water level is still the same, measure the wire or safety rope you used to pull the pump out in order to determine the length of the new pipe should it need replacing, more than likely this will be the case as the PVC pipe used on most installations will often break upon removal, however, they are not expensive to replace. When measuring for the replacement, do this before you buy the pipe so you can buy a roll that is big enough for the whole length, you must not come up short here and you will not be able to join sections together.
Take your polyethylene pipe and unroll it on a warm sunny day. This will help to relax the kinks and allow the pipe to soften which means easier handling. Tape the wiring which was attached to your original pump, to the polyethylene pipe at 8 – 10-foot intervals for its entire length.
Attach the pump to the pipe using whatever brass fitting is appropriate and replace the check valve, this is above the pump unless it has a built-in one. It is a safe bet to duplicate the set up which was used on your original well pump.
Now, take your waterproof splice kit and splice the power wire from your home to the wire which is connected to the pump. Test everything before you close the well cap and you should, in theory, be good to go.
